Congratulations to Alex Mary, recipient of a Catherine Lalonde 2023 Memorial Scholarship!

21 December 2023

We’re proud to announce that Alex Mary, a doctoral student in wood and bio-based materials engineering and a Renewable Materials Research Centre member, has been awarded the Catherine Lalonde 2023 Memorial Scholarship, valued at $2,500! The award, presented by the Canadian Wood Council (CWC), recognizes his academic excellence and the expected positive impact of his research project in structural wood design.
Bravo, Alex, for this well-deserved recognition!

As part of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Environmentally Responsible Wood Construction (CIRCERB), Alex is working on the development of biobased adhesives for cross-laminated timber (CLT), under the direction of Véronic Landry and Pierre Blanchet. The main objective of this work is to develop innovative adhesives that meet high standards of environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. The use of biobased adhesives can help improve the performance of the wood industry, with a focus on ecological sustainability. This approach is part of an eco-responsible construction perspective, aimed at minimizing environmental impact while optimizing the use of available resources and supporting sustainable development.

Created 18 years ago, the Catherine Lalonde Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to graduate students whose research work in the field of wood and the wood industry demonstrates a passion comparable to that of Catherine Lalonde as a professional engineer and President of the CCB.
