Participation of Hossein Emami in the «CUED Structures Research Seminars»!

8 January 2024

Hossein Emami, a Ph.D. student in civil engineering, took part in the «CUED Structures Research Seminars» held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the University of Cambodia. It was an excellent opportunity to share his results, broaden his skills, and develop his professional network.

Hossein works under the supervision of Luca Sorelli and Pierre Blanchet. He gave an oral presentation on «Multi-criteria optimization of sustainable Timber-Concrete-Composite floor systems».  This innovative approach is part of an eco-responsible construction perspective aimed at minimizing environmental impact while supporting sustainable development.

Congratulations Hossein, and we wish you every success in your research and academic career!

Thank you to the CRMR student mobility program, which supported Hossein Emami’s participation in this event!

Summary

To reduce the carbon footprint in buildings, it is essential to replace the common system with a more sustainable solution providing lightness and robustness with economic justification. Efficiency in the construction design has been compromised by utilizing ordinary structural elements that have not been fully exploited; therefore, reducing excessive material in them has a significant influence on transferring to more sustainable alternatives. This research aims to investigate innovative solutions for lightweight Timber-Concrete-Composite floors. This lecture presents the ongoing research regarding multi-criteria design optimization of sustainable Timber-Concrete-Composite floor systems considering embodied carbon and preliminary results regarding optimal design solutions.
