Sébastien Dumont’s forestry research!

23 January 2024

The works of Sébastien Dumont, a master’s student in forestry under the supervision of Alexis Achim (Laval University) and Steve Bédard (Ministry of Natural Resources and Forest), are the subject of Forest Research Notice No. 184 from the Quebec Forest Research Direction, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forest!

Congratulations, Sébastien, on this exceptional achievement, which highlights the quality of your research project on « Beech regeneration after logging: how important is vegetative reproduction? »

This research compares the growth and survival of stump sprouts, suckers and seedlings of beech regeneration with those of yellow birch and sugar maple in partially harvested stands subjected to deer browsing pressure. Over an eight-year period, 997 individuals of the three species were monitored in Quebec, Canada.

The results presented in this research paper were awarded 1st prize in the 2nd cycle category of the « Gustave-Clodomir-Piché » university scientific poster competition at Carrefour Forêts 2023!

Congratulations  Sébastien and we wish you all the best in your career!
