Chisholm Awards for Innovation in Forestry

22 February 2024

We are pleased to share that FPAC’s annual Chisholm Awards for Innovation in Forestry program is now accepting applications for its third year.

Forest Products Association of Canada F(FPAC) developed this awards program to honour the legacy of Robert F. Chisholm, a former champion of the forest sector in Canada, who bequeathed FPAC funds as part of his Estate and requested they be used to recognize innovation in the Canadian forest sector. The program was introduced in 2022 and was since successful in helping FPAC identify and promote pioneering forest-based research projects while recognizing youth leadership and innovation.

We launched the third year of the program today via press release and – in the coming weeks – will be working with sector champions, forest faculties, government stakeholders and Indigenous rightsholders to promote and identify eligible applicants. We will strike a panel of experts to assess applications and are looking to publicly promote the program to the broader forest innovation ecosystem to drive participation and drum up interest via direct outreach and social media.

Winners will be celebrated to coincide with The Nineteenth Session of the United Nations’ Forum on Forests on May 6-10. Winners will also receive a cash prize of CAD$2,500.00 along with local, regional, national, and social media promotion and will serve as Canada’s nominees for the International Council of Forest and Paper Associations’ (ICFPA) 2024-2025 Blue Sky Young Researchers Innovation Awards for the Global Forest Products Sector.

To apply and for more information about the awards, visit the program page on our website. Please help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity with interested partners, students, and colleagues in your network – and do not hesitate to let us know if you have any feedback or questions.

Please note the deadline for applications is Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET. Print-friendly copies of the application forms are available upon request.
