Last week, the Professor Pierre Blanchet, holder of the new Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Buildings and the Industrial Research Chair on Eco-responsible Wood Construction (CIRCERB), and his team received a delegation of 14 Chilean representatives from various sectors, including industry, government, and academia. Chile, endowed with abundant forest resources, is facing a housing shortage. To remedy this situation, the Chilean government wants to develop the wood prefabrication industry, with the aim of building 200,000 social housing units within 2 years. The delegation’s mission was therefore to visit factories and discover Quebec’s expertise in prefabricated wood buildings. In all, 8 Quebec manufacturers generously opened their doors for the occasion. Presentations and discussions with Quebec players in the wood construction, prefabrication and housing sectors were also organized.
