Professor Ahmed Koubaa is elected to the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS)

It is with immense pride that we announce that Professor Ahmed Koubaa, associate member of CRMR, has been elected as a member of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS) in 2024. This prestigious distinction recognizes his outstanding contributions to wood science and engineering, further solidifying his reputation as an international expert in the field.

As a Tier I Canada Research Chair, Professor Koubaa is a recognized expert in wood characterization, biomaterials, and biocomposites. With over 155 scientific publications and more than 7,200 citations, his research has had a major impact. He has developed innovative materials with mechanical and thermal properties comparable to structural wood products, notably using wood-polymer composites and agricultural residues. He has also established cutting-edge facilities dedicated to the manufacturing and 3D printing of biocomposites.

He is also co-holder of the CorePAN – Bois research consortium, led by Professor Alain Cloutier. This strategic project brings together researchers from various institutions to develop innovative solutions for wood-based composite panel production, fostering collaborative research and supporting the growth of the wood industry in Canada.

His election to IAWS is a well-earned recognition of his commitment to innovation, education, and advanced research in wood science. We warmly congratulate Professor Ahmed Koubaa on this well-deserved international distinction!
