Congratulations to Alexis Achim, Full Professor in Wood and Forest Sciences at Université Laval and Vice-Dean of Research in the Faculty of Forestry, Geography, and Geomatics, who ranks among the top 2% of the most influential researchers in the world for the second consecutive year (2024, 2023), according to the prestigious ranking established by Stanford University and the scientific publisher Elsevier
This distinction illustrates the significant impact of Professor Achim’s work, who is recognised as a world-class leader in the field of wood and forest sciences. His innovative contributions play a key role in promoting sustainable forestry practices and understanding the variation in wood properties at multiple scales, while supporting the development of bio-based materials in a circular economy context.
As a regular member of the Centre for Research on Renewable Materials (CRMR), of which he was director from 2017 to 2022, Professor Achim is also a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs forestiers du Québec and a member of the Centre d’étude de la forêt. He leads large-scale research partnerships involving various government, industry and community partners. Recent projects include his participation in the platform for the development of sustainable bio-based materials, funded by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation and the Canada Foundation for Innovation, which aims to innovate in the field of renewable materials; the setting up of a remote sensing laboratory applied to the adaptation of forestry to climate change, supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie, which is exploring solutions to help the forestry sector adapt to the new climatic realities; and the Silva21 pan-Canadian initiative, dedicated to the adaptation of forestry to global change, funded by the Alliance-NSERC program (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada).
Professor Achim also specialises in adding value to wood fibres for innovative products, including functional antimicrobial materials. His research and collaborations position Université Laval and the CRMR at the heart of the advancement of knowledge in wood and forest sciences. Thanks to his expertise and influence, he gives the CRMR high-level international visibility, consolidating the Centre’s reputation within the most influential research networks.
We are extremely proud to have a researcher of such stature among us, whose international recognition is richly deserved. Congratulations and thank you for your exceptional contribution to the CRMR and to the field of wood and forest sciences!
