Laurence Boudreault, PhD student in forestry sciences under the supervision of Alexis Achim and co-supervision of Maude Flamand-Hubert, had the opportunity to participate in the «IUFRO World Congress 2024», held June 23-29, 2024 in Stockholm (Sweden). The conference provides a global forum for the exchange of knowledge, perspectives and visions between scientists from a wide range of disciplines, as well as for dialogue with young people, policy-makers, forest managers, business representatives, and civil society organisations. Climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and growing social injustice are among the most serious crises facing the world today. Addressing these interconnected crises requires decisive and equitable action, with everyone taking responsibility within their own sphere of influence.
At this event, Laurence presented her innovative research on the « W8banaki forestry stewardship: Managing culturally keystone species on Indigenous territory ». She is studying the growing conditions that support the quality and viability of black ash, in order to propose innovative measures for the management of the species, based on the W8banakiak stewardship vision and knowledge that can enhance and sustain both black ash and basketry to ensure the transmission and securing of knowledge and practices.
This opportunity enabled Laurence to share her discoveries and scientific advances with an international audience of researchers, engineers and industry professionals. Through her oral presentation, Laurence was able not only to disseminate her research results, but also to receive constructive feedback from her peers. She also strengthened her skills and broadened her professional network.
The CRMR’s student mobility program provided crucial financial support, making this enriching experience possible. Thanks to this support, Laurence was able to represent her institution and play an active role in the advancement of research in her field.
Congratulations to Laurence on this achievement, and we wish her every success in her academic and professional career!
