CIRCERB research shines internationally at ISCHP 2024!

25 October 2024

The ISCHP 2024 conference (International Scientific Conference on Hardwood Processing) was held at the University of Coimbra in Portugal from 30 September to 2 October, bringing together experts from more than 20 countries to discuss the latest scientific advances in the processing and use of hardwood. This internationally renowned event highlighted the innovations and challenges associated with this material, which is particularly prized for its structural and aesthetic qualities, and for its potential in the field of sustainable construction.

Guest speaker, Professor Pierre Blanchet, brillianty marked the conference with an in-depth presentation tracing ten years of research into hardwood composites. A regular member of the CRMR, Pierre also holds the Industrial Research Chair on Eco-responsible Wood Construction (CIRCERB), as well as the Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Buildings. His presentation highlighted the progress made in using these composites for eco-friendly applications, particularly in the construction sector. He also discussed the prospects for the development of wood materials, highlighting their potential for meeting today’s requirements in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency.

João Vítor Felippe Silva, a postdoctoral fellow at CIRCERB, also enriched the programme by presenting his own research work and that of his colleague Oscar Legrais. Together, they are contributing to the advancement of knowledge on the specific properties of hardwoods and their integration into innovative processes. Their work attracted a great deal of interest from participants, especially at a time when renewable materials are essential for the transition to a more sustainable economy.

This event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase CIRCERB’s research on an international scale, while encouraging new collaborations between researchers, practitioners and institutions, all committed to developing sustainable solutions for the future of the wood industry.

Well done and all the best for the future!
