Optimization of Stripe-like Laminations: Marie Metten Explores the Potential of Hardwood!

22 May 2025

Congratulations to Marie Metten for the successful presentation of her internship final report on Thursday, May 22, 2025!

Her research project makes a valuable contribution to the integration of hardwood glued-laminated timber (glulam) in structural applications, by exploring innovative approaches for more efficient use of this resource.

Supervised by Pierre Blanchet, her project, entitled « Effect of Natural Defects in Hardwood on the Mechanical Properties of Stripe-like Laminations, »  aimed to assess the mechanical performance and bonding strength of various beam configurations intended for structural use. The stripe-like lamination approach helps reduce variability in mechanical properties while making it possible to incorporate wood with natural defects into structural elements.

This four-month internship was carried out at CIRCERB, as part of Marie Metten’s final-year program at the Haute École Robert Schuman (HERS) in Belgium.

Congratulations Marie on this excellent scientific and technical contribution!
