About the Speaker

Kévin Candelier has been working at Cirad-BioWooEB since 2014. He graduated in 2010 from the National School of Wood Science and Timber Engineering (ENSTIB) in Épinal, France. He earned his Ph.D. in Wood and Fiber Science from the University of Lorraine in 2013, and obtained his French Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) in 2024.

His research focuses on the physical and chemical characterization of lignocellulosic biomasses, the protection and preservation of wood and wood-based materials, as well as thermochemical modification processes applied to wood and other biomasses. Much of his work is conducted in tropical regions such as French Guiana, sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and Oceania.

He is actively involved in several international academic and industrial networks, including serving as a Scientific Program Committee Member of the International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRGWP), and as a member of the French Research Group on Wood Science (GDR 3444 Science du Bois), where he coordinates the “Tropical Woods” Working Group.

In addition, he manages and teaches in the Master’s program in Wood Sciences at the University of Montpellier, and delivers professional training in the fields of biomass valorization, wood chemical composition, and wood protection and preservation
