About the Speaker
Since 2014, Kevin Candelier has been conducting research at CIRAD – BioWooEB. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des technologies et industries du bois (ENSTIB) in 2010, he earned a Ph.D. in Wood and Fiber Sciences from the University of Lorraine in 2013 and obtained his Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) in 2024.
His research focuses on the physical and chemical characterization of lignocellulosic biomass, as well as the protection and preservation of wood, wood-based materials, and plant fibers. He is also interested in processing technologies and thermochemical modifications of wood and other renewable biomasses.
A significant portion of his work is carried out in tropical environments, particularly in French Guiana, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and Oceania, where issues related to the durability of bio-based materials and their protection against degradation agents are especially important.
Among his scientific responsibilities, he is:
- a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRGWP);
- a member of the GDR 3544 Science du Bois, where he coordinates the working group dedicated to tropical woods.
Strongly committed to education and knowledge transfer, he also teaches in the Master’s Program in Wood Sciences at the University of Montpellier and regularly delivers professional training on biomass valorization, wood chemistry, and preservation technologies for lignocellulosic materials.
