We invite you to a free training session on copyright, led by Sonya Morales, LL.D., Doctor of Law and Manager of the Copyright Office at the Laval University Library.
The use of other people’s work in the context of study and research is governed by several rules stemming from the Copyright Act and framed by Université Laval’s Student Disciplinary Regulations. A good understanding of these rules is essential to avoid any faux pas! After a presentation of the basic notions of copyright, we’ll tackle the question of ownership with a critical look at the principles of co-authorship. We’ll also discuss transparency and integrity, particularly in relation to the use of AIs and the citation of sources.
The conference will answer the following questions:
Are you an author or collaborator?
Who owns a work created on the job? Who owns your academic work?
Can I use, modify or translate a work?
How do I request permission to use material I didn’t create?
Is my paraphrase a form of plagiarism?
Organized by the Chaire de leadership en enseignement en foresterie autochtone and the Centre de recherche sur les matériaux renouvelables, the training session will take place on Wednesday, December 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in room GHK 2320-2330.
Access is free, but registration is required!
We look forward to welcoming you,
