The CRMR at the ULaval Meeting of research, creation, and innovation!

29 May 2025

On May 27, 2025, Université Laval held the very first edition of the research, creation and innovation meeting at the Québec City Convention Centre. This major event, which brought together more than 650 people, aimed to showcase the richness, excellence, and diversity of the work carried out at Université Laval (ULaval) and by its many partners, and to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions. It was an inspiring day, marked by the vibrancy of the ULaval research community

With a dynamic and engaging program, the event offered an exceptional platform for researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to present their work around major contemporary issues, such as fundamental research, technological innovation, internationalization, knowledge transfer, and interdisciplinary partnerships. Interactive booths, hosted by various research units, allowed participants to discover ongoing projects, engage with teams, and spark new collaborations.

The Renewable Materials Research Center (CRMR) and the Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics (FFGG) were proudly represented at this major event, showcasing their flagship projects, highlighting the excellence of scientific research, and emphasizing the key role of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and driving innovation.

This event provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the projects led by the CRMR, which cover a wide range of themes—from biomass characterization and valorization to the design of high-performance bio-based materials. Through our interactive booth, we were able to offer an exceptional platform for these initiatives. Special attention was given to the impact of carbon management, a central issue for the center. Through their research, CRMR members demonstrate how integrated approaches—from the sustainable management of forest resources to the development of low environmental footprint materials—play a key role in the fight against climate change and the transition to a carbon-neutral economy.

Conversations with visitors—researchers, partners, students, and the general public—were rich and inspiring. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the CRMR, strengthen existing ties, and build new ones. Thank you to everyone who stopped by! Together, let’s keep building forward-looking solutions for future generations.

Among the CRMR members highlighted during the event was Laura Chrétien, a PhD candidate at Université Laval under the supervision of Véronic Landry. Laura recently distinguished herself at the 2025 national final of my thesis in  three minutes competition, where she won the third prize awarded by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). Riding the wave of this recognition, she presented her project titled “Proteins for Adhesives!”—a brilliant demonstration of scientific innovation in the field of bio-based materials, and a testament to her outstanding talent for science communication.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the organizing committee of the Major Research, Creation, and Innovation Event for the outstanding quality of the event, the warm welcome, and the exemplary organization. This initiative provides a valuable showcase for promoting research work, fosters the emergence of new synergies, and fully contributes to the prominence of our university.
