Congratulations to Isabel Cristina Gomez Garcia on receiving a CERMA–CRMR EDI Scholarship!

The joint CERMA–CRMR EDI Committee would like to warmly congratulate Isabel Cristina Gomez Garcia, PhD candidate in Wood and Bio-based Materials Engineering under the supervision of Pierre Blanchet, for receiving the CERMA–CRMR EDI Scholarship for her project « Creating Lasting Connections: A Human and Equitable Welcome Pathway.»

This initiative aims to improve the reception and integration of new international members within both centers. It includes the development of a dynamic database of volunteer mentors committed to supporting newcomers at every stage of their integration: from the very first contact, prior to their arrival, and through personalized follow-up once they are on site.

In response to the challenges identified within our community, this project offers human, structured, and inclusive support, facilitating access to information, cultural adaptation, and a sense of belonging. It represents a sustainable and replicable tool to strengthen equity and inclusion in our research environments.

We invite all laboratories and teams to centralize and forward information regarding new arrivals so that we can welcome them effectively and offer them personalized support.

We would also like to warmly thank all mentors who commit to supporting newcomers, helping us collectively create a human, equitable, and sustainable welcome pathway.
