We are pleased to announce that, since November 4, Charles Breton has assumed the position of Assistant Professor of Infrastructure Life Cycle Assessment in the Department of Civil and Water Engineering at Laval University. This appointment represents a significant milestone in his academic and professional journey.
Charles holds a cooperative bachelor’s degree in wood engineering and a master’s degree in wood science. He is also nearing the completion of his PhD in wood engineering and biobased materials at CIRCERB. Under the supervision of Pierre Blanchet, with the co-direction of Ben Amor and Francesco Pomponi, his doctoral research focused on identifying sustainable construction solutions tailored to Quebec’s building stock.
As both a researcher and educator, Charles is actively engaged in the pursuit of a low-carbon society. His work leverages innovative environmental engineering tools such as life cycle assessment (LCA) and material flow analysis (MFA). These tools allow him to address a fundamental question: how can we design resilient, sustainable buildings and infrastructures that meet society’s essential needs while mitigating climate change impacts and protecting natural resources?
Through his dedication, Charles contributes to the ongoing discourse on environmental challenges and the search for actionable solutions to build a more sustainable future. We wish him every success in his new role!
