Support for Applications to Scholarship Programs from Funding Agencies!
The scholarship programs from funding agencies aim to stimulate research interest and provide financial support to the best candidates, enabling them to begin or continue their master’s or doctoral studies in various research fields.
To increase the number of students receiving named scholarships, the Renewable Materials Research Centre (CRMR) will organize sessions this year to assist with writing scholarship applications from funding agencies. Two sessions will specifically focus on the scholarships from the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). Professor Véronic Landry will lead them and will take place on August 8, 2024, in room GHK 2376: the first session, in French, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a second session in English, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
A third session is planned for September 2024, in the form of an interactive workshop designed to answer students’ questions and assist them in writing their applications. During this session, participants will be able to work alongside recipients of prestigious scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT). These recipients will share their experiences and provide valuable advice. Individual assistance will also be offered to address the specific needs of each student, thereby maximizing their chances of success.
The winning grant applications will also be shared with the candidates participating in this year’s competition and attending the August 8 training session. This will provide them with insight into the selection criteria and best practices for submitting a successful application. By sharing these examples, we hope to encourage and inspire participants to showcase their projects compellingly, thereby increasing their chances of success. This exchange of information can also serve as a valuable guide for students in preparing their future grant applications, providing them with models and practical advice.
During the first two sessions, Véronic Landry will cover the following topics:
To be better prepared, we encourage you to read the competition rules before the session by consulting this link. Additionally, we invite you to check the calendar of competitions offered by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies sector to discover other available scholarships. This will help you understand the deadlines and criteria for each competition and plan your applications accordingly.
We also invite you to create your account on the FRQNT website now, using the following link: Â FRQnet – Portfolio (gouv.qc.ca). Please bring your laptop to the session so that we can work together on the various pages of the FRQNT online application form.
In the link provided, you will also find a comprehensive list of graduate programs you can apply to, along with the application deadlines. It is important to note that international students are also eligible for certain scholarships, as indicated in the list of available scholarships. Furthermore, the site offers valuable resources to help students prepare their scholarship applications, including guides and tips to improve the quality of your submission. We strongly encourage you to explore these resources to maximize your chances of securing a scholarship.
Please note that three scholarships of $250 each will also be awarded this year by random draw to CRMR student members who apply for excellence scholarships from major funding agencies. This initiative aims to encourage participation and recognize the efforts of students in preparing their applications.
If you wish to participate in the training led by Véronic Landry on August 8, 2024, please confirm your attendance directly with her. I will be on vacation and unable to follow up on this meeting. Thank you for your comprehension.
