On site (Université Laval, Marchand Pavilion), pizza will be available: please reserve using the following link BEFORE April 28 at 3:00 p.m.

A biologist’s career path in forestry in Quebec

In this presentation, Samuel retraces his academic journey from his undergraduate degree in biology to his postdoctoral research. After completing a master’s and a PhD in forest ecology, he is currently continuing his research at Université Laval with Professor Évelyne Thiffault. His work is part of a project with Hydro-Québec aimed at evaluating the carbon and ecological impacts of electricity transmission lines. He is also interested in the valorization of forest biomass as well as the albedo of abandoned agricultural lands compared to reforestation, contributing to a better understanding of environmental issues related to land management.

Samuel is a postdoctoral researcher at Université Laval under the supervision of Évelyne Thiffault. He holds a master’s degree in ecology from UQAT (2019) and a PhD in environmental sciences from UQAM (2025), both focused on forestry. He is currently working to better understand the impact of high-voltage power lines on Quebec’s forests. His academic path centers on forest ecology, ranging from studies on the effects of silvicultural practices to the analysis of species interactions in boreal forests, and to the assessment of carbon-related issues and infrastructure in wooded environments.
