You are warmly invited to attend the conference by Alexandre Morin-Bernard, Assistant Professor in the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences at Laval University. This event will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 12:00 PM in Room 2320-2330 of the Gene H. Kruger Pavilion.
Title and Summary of the Conference: Observing and Understanding Forest Growth Reactions to Disturbances and Climate Stress
Our understanding of forest conditions has historically relied on large-scale forest inventories, which provide information on resource availability, quality, and expected yield. However, the significant variability observed in tree growth reactions to climate changes and disturbance regimes complicates a comprehensive and spatial assessment of forest growth, despite the existence of sample plot networks and dendrochronological databases. These challenges can, however, be partially addressed through increased use of remote sensing technologies. This conference will present completed or ongoing work that combines field sampling data with satellite imagery and LiDAR to monitor forest conditions over time and better understand the relationships between growth, structure, and environmental conditions.
