It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Ms. Evelyne Thiffault as Co-Director of the Renewable Materials Research Center (RMRC), effective October 4, 2024.
A forest engineer and full professor in the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences at Laval University, Ms. Thiffault is recognized for her solid expertise in sustainable forestry and her commitment to responsible forest resource management. She also holds the position of Scientific Director of the Montmorency Forest, the largest teaching and research forest in the world. Through her research, she contributes to advancing knowledge on the role of forestry in the energy transition and the fight against climate change, highlighting the impact of forestry practices on carbon storage and emissions.
As co-leader of the GBEP’s Activity Group 4 (AG4) on bioenergy, Ms. Thiffault plays a central role in promoting modern wood energy, with a particular focus on carbon accounting and the sustainability of this renewable energy source. Her work in this field aims to develop innovative approaches to integrate wood energy into global climate change solutions, in collaboration with international partners.
Since joining the CRMR in 2014, Ms. Thiffault has stood out for her active involvement in training the next generation of scientists. She currently supervises more than 20 students and contributes significantly to the research and innovation activities of the Center. Her commitment, strategic vision, and recognized expertise make her an essential figure for the development and influence of the CRMR. Her impact also extends beyond academia, through close collaborations with forestry industry partners and government agencies, aimed at promoting more sustainable forestry practices and raising awareness among decision-makers of climate challenges. We are confident that she will play a decisive role in the growth and reputation of our Center.
